You’re never too old to reveal too much

A week ago I wrote Too Much Revealed, in which I ranted about women wearing unflattering, revealing clothes. I focused mostly on young women who haven’t figured out that more skin does not equal ’sexy’. As Miss Janey pointed out in her comment, older women are just as guilty of such behavior. However, what I saw the other day was even worse.
My mom was driving down a 6-lane highway and I was riding along looking out the window when I saw an older woman, in broad afternoon daylight, grabbing her newspaper from the box on the side of the highway. She was wearing… nothing but a long gray shirt which barely covered her bum, with everything jiggling. Apparently, there is a worldwide epidemic, so I decided that I had to say something.
So here it is…
For goodness sakes, have a little self respect! I don’t expect everyone to get all dolled up to grab the newspaper, but there are some standards when you’re in public (and beside a 6-lane highway definitely counts as public). At least wear some shorts or a dress! I love day dresses because of how easy they are to toss on, but a long night shirt does not count as a dress.
I know there are some older people out there who have given up on keeping up appearances and say that they just don’t care about what people think any more. Fine, but stop being so hypocritical. If you think revealing clothes look bad on young girls, then you should know better than to wear them yourself.

Ha ha…normally I’d agree, but I think getting the newspaper falls into the magical zone of invisibility where one can pretend one isn’t seen, and everyone else should go along with it. Besides, Tony Soprano alway looked weirdly sexy getting his paper in a robe and shorts, no? :-)

Even if I was getting it in my nightshirt, I’d throw on a bathrobe or coat just in case my invisibility shields went down. ;)

LOL! Yes, thank goodness for bathrobes! I keep mine handy because many mornings I’m awoken by the UPS guy. I wish there was something I could reasonably wrap around my face at those times, though. I don’t mind people seeing me without makeup, but I tend to have pillow creases, leftover mascara smudges, and crazy looking bangs in the morning.
