Wardrobe update

By Meg | March 2, 2008

So you know how I said recently that I was going to try not to spend a lot replacing the clothes that I weeded from my wardrobe? Well, that didn’t last long.

I returned the clothes with tags to Ross and got a little over $100 in store credit. Yikes, I know! I had no clue I had that much unworn stuff — and that’s not counting the stuff with tags that didn’t get returned for one reason or another.

So, I had that burning a hole in my pocket when my friend asked me if I’d go clothes shopping with her. She just got a new job and needed some appropriate clothes that would make a sharp impression. We also needed a bit of retail therapy (a bad excuse usually, but the day was partly planned ahead of time).

And you know what? I feel really good about my purchases — and hers, too. I tried some new styles and colors, but kept in mind what I learned while weeding out my wardrobe recently. Thanks to that and my friend’s great style advice, I don’t think I’ll have to return anything, which would be very unusual for me.

Of course, the downside is that I did spend a bit more than what I had store credit for. However, I did get quite a few pieces that have been specifically on my mental wish list, like a pair of black and white heels, some really colorful cork wedges, some brown slingbacks, two camis in lovely colors, another denim skirt (actually a skort, which is great because you can’t tell), a white skirt, some solid color blouses, and both a top and bag in shades or pinkish shades of orange that actually look good on me.

I can’t wait to try out all my new clothes. My friend and I have already had quite a fashion show for my husband and each other.

And if she ever cleans out her closet, I’m already claiming first dibs.

*shrugs* The point is you got rid of what you DON’T like, and now you have what you do :)

Oh, and like I posted earlier this week, there’s no point in being so consumed by clearing your debt that you don’t have fun once in a while :P

Exactly on both accounts, FB! And the great news is that when we checked our finances yesterday, we still did better than breaking even — despite some other large purchases.

It’s nice to know that we can get things we need and want, but still make progress on the debt. Just the fact that we stopped growing the debt is huge for us.
