The Fabulous! Festival for March ‘08
By Meg | March 3, 2008

Welcome to the March edition of The Fabulous! Festival, a blog carnival dedicated to looking and feeling fa-bu-lous. This month’s submissions were particularly fabulous, with posts on topics from how much should one really spend on a wardrobe to sexy sundresses and burlesque tease. Here are my top ten picks.
Beauty
To maintain a fabulous glow, it’s important to make proper skincare a part of your daily routine. But while you may have heard to term “exfoliation” bounced around, all the different ways of exfoliating can be intimidating. What should you use? Why should you even bother? If you’ve been asking those questions, then make sure you check out The Art of Exfoliation posted at Red Lipstick.
Of course, what you put on your skin is just as important as what you clean off of it. That’s why Woman Tribune asks, “Do You Know What’s in Your Cosmetics?.” I don’t blame you if you don’t. It’s hard enough to pronounce some of those ingredients, let alone know what they do or where they come from.
However, if you do like to know what you’re putting on your skin, then consider making your own skincare products at home. At Beauty and Personal Grooming, Aparna presents Pore shrinking mask recipes from home.
Hair coloring might be a little more complicated, but Suzann Kale from My Makeup Mirror shows that there are still plenty of choices when it comes to Natural, At-Home Hair Coloring.
Shopping
Looking to jazz up your hair without dyeing it? Maybe a fabulous hair accessory is in order — or maybe not. Holly from Woman Tribune asks, “Hair Accessories: How Much is Too Much?”
Well, maybe that expensive hair band will be easier to justify if you save money elsewhere. Fortunately, Holly has from Woman Tribune has made that easier with her post, First Annual Sunday Freebies: Home & Food.
And while you’re pondering the spluring and saving, check out Jacinta Gandy’s wise advice post, Fashion Theory: Establishing Your Clothing Budget at apresenta.
Style & Fashion
Now that you have a clothing budget, what will you be putting on your summer wardrobe wishlist? How about a sundress — still a classy way to stay cool. But to keep from looking dowdy, check out How to Choose A Sexy Sundress posted at Southern Sundress by Sundress Girl.
But if the southern belle look isn’t your thing, there are plenty of style icons out there for inspiration. Material Girl from …a material world presents Style Icon: Blondie.
If your style needs a bit more sex appeal, it’s easy to find inspiration in the burlesque performers of today and decades past. In Burlesque Pinups - The Dancers, Singers and Comedians of Sexy posted at The Pinup Shop Blog, Tali presents clips of several burlesque performances including those by such famous performers as Bettie Page and Dita Von Teese. While the styles of the performers may vary dramatically, the women show that the essence of sex appeal is not what you show but what you don’t. (And with the exception of Dita Von Teese’s video, you might be surprised how little is revealed. Dare I say, you’re likely to see more skin at the beach or on MTV — and more risqué moves at middle school dances.)
And over at The Bargain Queens
Finally, I’d like to remind you to check out The Bargain Queens for more fabulous posts on beauty, shopping, style and fashion. Here are a couple of my own that were posted recently:
