The Fabulous! Festival for June ‘08
By Meg | June 10, 2008
Welcome to the June edition of the Fabulous! Festival, the blog carnival for fa-bu-lous posts on topics like style, fashion, beauty and shopping. There was a great turnout and I’ve chosen to feature ten posts which I found particularly helpful or thought-provoking.
Beauty
Tracee Sioux presents Real Breasts Gallery posted at Blog Fabulous, saying, “Ever stood in front of a mirror and said, “I wish my breasts were normal?” With so many images of “perfect breasts” in media and marketing the average person has a distorted idea of what is normal. Visit the Real Breast Gallery for a true to life perception of just how normal your breasts really are.”
Even if you’ve already checked out the Real Breasts Gallery, it’s worth checking this post about it because, as you may expect, it lead to quite an interesting conversation — including my two cents on the assumption that you can’t be skinny with a naturally large chest
Tali presents 10 Strangest Pinup Artist Quirks posted at The Pinup Blog, saying, “Visual artists can’t hide behind their work, at some point, some one will notice, a fetish, a habit a quirk. Missing belly buttons, fake breasts, detached heads…”
Another breast-filled post to be sure (consider that your disclaimer), I thought this was a particularly interesting exhibit. Call them quirks, fetishes, or just plain ******-up, but consider for a moment the power that these artists have to recreate the female form, and how they choose to. You may disagree with the artists’ choices, but I found it interesting when compared to how women themselves choose to alter their forms.
Jessica Jones presents Celebrating Womanhood posted at Practical Nourishment.
The slumber party beauty recipes are certainly useful, but it was the commentary that really got me. Having recently seen a “news” bit that criticized taking kids to spas as superficial, I found this down to earth post on celebrating womanhood through a home “mother-daughter” spa night to be truly uplifting — and it’s written by a mother who describes herself on a typical day as a “non-shaving, non-makeup-wearing, non-hair-doing, non-face-washing, barely have space to shower a couple times a week or keep slimy baby hands off my just washed clothes for more than an hour, au naturale type lady”.
Julie Heath presents Pregnancy Skin Care Tips posted at More4kids Inc..
As if you didn’t have enough to worry about, pregnancy brings its own skin issues. Fortunately, there are some things you can do.
Tammy presents Daily Skin Care Tips posted at Healthtrition Beauty and Health.
You’ve probably heard these all before, but how many do you do? Consider this a reminder.
Tip Diva presents Top Ten Tips - Quick Beauty Tricks posted at Tip Diva, saying, “Beauty staples, like cosmetics, are great to experiment with. Use your ingenuity to find even more tricks than Tip Diva has found”.
I love easy tips like these that show me how to better use the stuff I already have.
Fashion and style
Eternal Voyageur presents How to measure your bra size correctly | eternalvoyageur’s Xanga Site - Weblog posted at eternalvoyageur’s Xanga.
Chances are, you’re wearing the wrong size bra. It’s truly an epidemic. So, grab your measuring tape and don’t forget to check the country conversion chart.
Woman Tribune presents Fixing Those Crazy Bra Problems posted at Woman Tribune.
Even if you find the right bra size, you may still have bra issues. You have to wear the right bras for you, and here are some tips for finding them.
Barry Wright, III presents Color Theory Introduction posted at fashionablemathematician.
Sure, you probably know which colors tend to look best on you and which ones don’t work at all, but if you’re ready to go to the next level and learn the science behind the colors you wear, then check out this post.
Sara presents How fashion hurts women’s careers posted at The Wardrobe Channel Inside Scoop.
Fed up with how many fashion designers ignore the needs of career women, Sara asks, “Is it really that hard to dress women for productive work?” It’s a common complaint, but the good news is that Sara and I are working on something that will hopefully change things.

There are some great posts in here!
Also, you list the deadline for the July Fest as being June 4th; surely you mean July?

Thanks Ashe Mischief! And thanks for catching that. I did mean July. Part of me still can’t believe that it’s June already! Where did May go? May never lasts long enough.

A great festival ! I think that you really went through the entries and picked the best, since each one is very interesting ! Thanks for featuring my post, BTW :)

Thanks eternalvoyageur! I’m glad you found them all so interesting. I do take quite a bit of time trying to pick my favorites. It can be tough because I hate not picking anyone’s posts. There really are a lot of great submissions, but I try to limit myself to ten. It forces me to be really choosy that way, and I thinks it makes the Fabulous! Festival a little easier to read through.
And you’re very welcome. Thanks for submitting it!
