The Fabulous! Festival for July ‘08
By Meg | July 7, 2008
Welcome to the July edition of the Fabulous! Festival, the blog carnival for fa-bu-lous posts on topics like style, fashion, beauty and shopping. Once again, I was really impressed by the submissions but I’ve chosen to feature ten posts which I found particularly helpful or thought-provoking.
To start with, here’s a post from one of my favorite Fabulous! Festival participants, Tip Diva. In her post, Top Ten Tips - Look Luxe For Less, Tip Diva suggests what things to splurge on — or not — to look like a million bucks without having to have the million dollar salary.
Looking to update your look for the season? Crystal Nichols presents Frugal Fashion: Summer Must Haves! posted at Living the Frugal Life, saying, “Even though I am a former shopaholic, I still like having nice clothing and accessories. I am planning a trip to the Frugal Mall ( a.k.a. thrift store) this weekend. If you know what you are looking for, you can absolutely keep up with the current fashions at much better prices.”
Of course, nothing says that you have to follow trends. Barry Wright, III presents Goal: Challenging the Norm posted at fashionablemathematician.
Whether you like to challenge the norm or just personalize the season’s trends, finding a style of your own is half the fun of fashion. Fortunately, queengilda from freebird - queengilda.com has lots of tips in her post 10 ways to finding a style that’s you.
Looking for some more inspiration? Maybe it’s time to explore your wild side with some inspiration from pinup art — though even the least wild of us can find something to love about pinups as Tali shows in 10 Reasons Why We Love Pinups posted at Tali
Want to up your sex appeal? VikramKir has some straight forward tips: Tips- Look Sexy. Increase Sex Appeal! posted at Thoughtfully Vikram…. I especially love the equation, “Body + Dress + Personality + Hygiene= Sex Appeal.”
Sexiness isn’t only for the young, but a youthful look definitely helps. So, if you want to look your best for years to come, check out Juliet’s post Anti Aging Basics - Keeping Your Skin Looking Youthful Forever over at Healthtrition Beauty and Health.
Whatever your age, dressing for your figure is important if you want to look your best. Talk Prom Dresses sums up advice on finding figure-flattering formal wear in the post Recent Prom Forums Comments at Prom Dresses. It’s a good read even if you’re not planning for prom.
But if you are planning for prom or another formal event, check out Sassy is Sexy’s post, Four Tips for Finding an Inexpensive, but Beautiful Prom Dress posted at Sexy Clothing.
Finally, if you love to window shop online, then check out Finds: Etsy pouncing posted at SeaBird Chronicles by SeaBird.
In related news…
I just wanted to let everyone know that this may be the last Fabulous! Festival for a while. As much as I love doing it, I just don’t have the time right now since I’m super-busy working on projects over at The Wardrobe Channel. I look forward to showing you everything I’ve been working on over there, but for the time being, here’s a few posts over at The Wardrobe Channel: Inside Scoop blog:
- Confessions of a video virgin
- How I went from geek to chic: Part I
- How I went from geek to chic: Part II
- Working with friends without losing them
If you’re interested in hosting an edition — or even a few editions — of the Fabulous! Festival, do still let me know. That may be one way to keep it going while I work on other things for a while.
But in the meantime, be sure to subscribe to Fabulously Broke in the City because F.B. regularly features a lot of very fabulous links.
