The Fabulous! Festival for 09/17/07

By Meg | September 17, 2007

Fabulous! Festival Logo Welcome to the September 17th, 2007 edition of the Fabulous! Festival! The theme is “color”. I want to start by saying thanks to The Bargain Queen for handing over the festival to me. I’m really honored to be the new organizer. Thanks to all those who submitted posts. There was a great turnout, but unfortunately I couldn’t choose them all. Thanks also to those who helped promote this edition, like Icy at Individual Chic.

From the neck up

Without further ado, let’s start with Miss Janey’s post on HATtastic entitled Color Fall Fabulous, which she submitted saying “Leaves turn from green to yellow, then orange to red and finally to brown… In farm towns, bright orange pumpkins are ripe for picking. Despite all the blooms of spring, September is truly the most colorful month.” And what better way to add some color to your fall wardrobe than to keep your head warm with a colorful hat!

Hopefully you won’t have to use a hat to hide a bad color job or haircut. Fortunately, Dean from Office Hair has written several great posts that will help you get your hair color right. For the Brunettes is a guide to Goldwell’s “Soft Color” range of mousses for brunettes, which he recommends to keep your color fresh between salon visits. In I Don’t Want to be a Blonde for Winter, he explains how blondes can darken their hair a bit for natural look that’s appropriate for the season. Hopefully you made it through summer without becoming one of “the beige people” that Dean describes in Fake Tan vs Fake Hair Colour. Do people go blonde because blondes have more fun or just because they like a change?

Gemma from Jumble is a natural blonde and as she wrote in Choosing a Haircut that Suits You, she has dyed her hair everything from black with white tips to black with pink and purple tips then back again to blonde. It all started when she realized, “IT’S JUST HAIR. It grows back.” Working down a bit from the hair, Gemma also presents How to Wear Colourful Make-Up. As with hair, she recommends having fun and experimenting. As she explains in Show Your True Colours, that wasn’t always her attitude. You’ll have to read her post, though, to find out what changed.

How we feel about color

In Rose Red and The Peacock Queen, Ashe Mischief from Dramatis Personae explains her love for red and peacock blue, which show up in her accessories. Although not frequently seen in her wardrobe, Ashe Mischief shows how she incorporates orange into her home decor in Orange You Glad… .

Icy from Individual Chic presents Closet Goth, saying “I know this is a festival about colour, but black is a colour isn’t it?” Well, it works for me.

Deja Pseu from Une Femme d’un Certain Age also prefers neutrals to bright colors. She presents To Color and Color Not, saying, “Une femme’s thoughts on the messages of color (and lack of color) and a bit about her own personal journey to find how best to use color to express her style.”

General color advice

If you’re looking for ways to add more color to your outfits, check out Color Yourself Happy, presented by the always stylish Kasmira Oar at What I Wore Today.

What if your skin tone and hair color are the similar? Rebecca from The Space Between My Peers presents Using Contrast with the Personal Color Palette.

Other posts

I’m also including a few good posts not directly related to color.

Fabulously Broke from Fabulously Broke in the City presents Shopping Strategies to Save Money, Time and Space in Your Wardrobe!.

Ned from 1 is A, 2 is B presents How to Shrink Levi’s 501 Shrink to Fit Jeans.

Jeni from Savvy Skin presents Top 10 Signs You’re a Beauty Junkie, a post that’s sure to leave you laughing.

That’s a wrap

I hope you’ve enjoyed this edition of the Fabulous! Festival. You can submit your favorite posts to the next edition of the Fabulous! Festival using this submission form. The next edition will be hosted on October 1st by Icy at Individual Chic. The deadline for submitting posts will be September 28th.

I’m going to try to have an edition out every two weeks if I can find enough people to host. If you’re interested in hosting the festival, please contact me using this form. It’s a great way to bring new people to your blog, as well as help out other talented bloggers whose posts deserve to be featured.
