Six random things

Une femme d’un certain age has tagged me for the “6 random things” meme. Thanks for thinking of me Une femme ;)

I’ve already responded to a “7 random things” meme, and an “8 random things” meme, so this is a little tricky, but here it goes.

  1. I like online genealogy. I spent much of last night and this morning checking up on what others have added online about some of our ancestors. One crazy tree traced it all the way back to both the Bible and Greco-Roman mythology. Of course, I take it all with a huge grain of salt, but that’s still pretty neat. Even discounting the less than credible branches, my dad’s side of the family has been in the U.S. since at least the 1600s. Plus I found out that one ancestor died from a gunshot wound at the Civil War battle of Cold Harbor.
  2. Today I’m trying to organize stuff for a huge yard sale we’re having Saturday. I can’t believe how much stuff we’re getting rid of — and I can’t wait to see it go.
  3. If all goes as planned, my husband will be done with our chicken coop this weekend. Then Cleo and Chloe Clucker can move in. (We haven’t actually bought the chickens yet, but I didn’t let that stop me from naming them.)
  4. I don’t wear perfume or other fragrance-y stuff. I’m not against it, it’s just not worth the time, clutter, or money to me.
  5. I really hate it when people leave knives out on the counter. I’m forever getting on to my husband about it because I can just see our cats doing something stupid.
  6. I recently organized three bookcases by color, then by height on each shelf. My friends who have seen it think I’m nuts — but they probably knew that already.
  7. Bonus: My birthday is this month — and I still haven’t figured out whether I’m looking forward to it or not.

Hi Tarah,

It’s Sunday, so I’m having the party on Saturday.

Yeah, I’m not totally against perfume and stuff, it’s just not my thing. I do hate it when people overdo it, though.

The bookcases didn’t take too long. I worked on it off and on over the course of a day, but it only took an hour or so total I think. First I organized each shelf by color, then I took all the reds and put them on one shelf, all the greens on another, etc. Some of the colors are a little mixed, like on one shelf I have mostly yellow and orange, with some pinks and a few tall reds. The hardest part was actually figuring out what I wanted to do with the odder colors like beige, brown, gray, and a surprisingly popular color that I can only describe as a light greenish-yellow-brown. I ended up with two shelves to black, one to white shelf to white, and two shelves to all those odd colors.
