Shorts
By Meg | May 17, 2007

A couple days I wrote about various types of bottoms one can comfortably wear in the summer heat. Looking around the blogosphere, it appears that I am not the only one that dislikes short shorts. Of course, I’m not surprised. In my humble opinion, few women have the body to pull of short shorts. I have one pair of khaki shorts that I bought at a consignment shop because they reminded me of the ones worn by Nellie in the 1958 movie version of South Pacific
. However, I have yet to wear them out.
At Aging Fabulous Teri asks “Dressing Your Age - as in How Short is Too Short?.” When should a woman, even with a great body, give up wearing short shorts in public - in her 50s? 40s? 30s? Never? I’m not one to talk in absolutes, but it does get harder and harder to pull them off. Then again, I have seen a very small number of women in their 40s that pulled them off - so well that I wanted to tell them, “You go girl!” It’s nice to see women who haven’t let themselves go. It gives me hope for myself and if I had their body I would want to show it off as well.
That is not to say that I’m not still hesitant about short shorts in general. In fact, when I saw the title of Busy with Style’s post “Get Shorts for Style’s Sake” I clicked with just a bit of hesitation. Fortunately, the shorts Ivy is recommending are about knee length. I still wouldn’t get them just for “style’s sake”, but I’d definitely where a pair of knee length shorts in order to beat the heat.
