Quotes from my husband: On my shoe collection
By Meg | January 20, 2008
Today my husband and I are continuing to declutter our house. Things are really picking up now that we have more practice and our motivation has been renewed by the way things are taking shape here.
Earlier, my husband was laying on the bed with our cats taking a break when I started taking out my shoe collection to go through. Now, I was only taking out the shoes that I keep in plastic shoe boxes. I also have two pairs of sneakers, four pairs of boots, almost twenty pairs of flip flops, and one pair of bunny slippers, all of which I left where they were.
I had started by piling the shoe boxes on top of the foot of the bed. That didn’t last long, though, since I have too many pairs to comfortably pile there without it looking like the leaning tower of Pisa. So I stacked the rest down in front of the bed.
I looked at the pile, looked at my husband, and then said, “Wow, that’s impressive!” To which he replied, “It’s not that bad, just ten pairs of shoes.” “No, Sweetie,” I replied and pointed down to the stacks that weren’t on the bed. “Oh, that’s where the $__ went!”
Just in the boxes alone, I currently have thirty four pairs of shoes. That’s not even counting the two pairs that I just tossed in the Goodwill pile. And while I do plan to weed through them a today, I doubt I’ll be giving away many because most of those shoes are survivors of my last weeding session where I cut my shoe collection in about half.
In case you’re wondering, though, I can only think of two pairs of shoes that I have that cost over $60, and one of those is the pair of boots my mom gave me for Christmas (and which I get lots of compliments on). Most of my shoes cost less than $20, but I’m keeping an eye out for better quality shoes. I’m also casually looking for shoes in colors other than black, brown, beige, red, medium blue, white, and turquoise since those are covered, but I’d love some brighter colors for variety. I want them to be perfect, though, because I don’t need another pair of shoes — especially if they aren’t absolutely fabulous.
