Posing for photos: Part IV, Have fun

In the previous posts I’ve given you some guidelines for how to look better in photos. That’s the basics, but sometimes you want more than just a nice photo. Sometimes you really want a photo to send a strong message. After my roommate passed away, I was fortunate to have many opportunities to see photos of her that other friends had shared. In many she was making funny faces or gestures. While there were some nice posed photos in which she did look absolutely gorgeous, it was in those candid shots that I could really see her smiling back. I know that this has been a rather somber way of getting to my point, but do have fun with photos and be yourself. Someday those photos may be treasured more than you’ll ever know. Hopefully, though, you will treasure them yourself as a reminder to lighten up and enjoy your sense of humor. And of course, there are sexy photos, angry photos, sad photos… photos to describe every emotion. Experiment. Digital cameras are fun for doing just that. Just make sure you know where those files end up if you aren’t ready to show the world.

Do you enjoy experimenting with taking photos of yourself? If so, what sort of messages do you try to send?
