Ick!

I was thinking recently about paper towels and how it’s both cheaper and better for the the environment to use reusable cloth towels instead. My husband and I already use cloth towels a lot and we’ve been thinking of getting some nice cloth napkins. The other day, I even thought that maybe we (or at least I) should try to spend a week without using paper towels.
Then I made breakfast.
We got some new bowls and I thought that maybe the sides were tall enough that I could microwave my steel cut oatmeal in them without it boiling over. I had planned to keep an eye on the bowl, but I got distracted. When I turned around to take a look, the microwave was a gooey, icky mess.
I looked at the cloth towels, then the paper towels. Then I decided that it was too early in the morning to deal with this mess with a cloth towel that had to be rinsed. So I grabbed the paper towels, wiped up the mess, and transferred it all to the garbage can.
My one consolation is that I know that some of the ‘forests’ around our area wouldn’t be there if it weren’t for us paper users.

My biggest concern is not paper (i mean, we use toilet paper, don’t we?) but plastic. Especially those plastic tubs even our fruit and veg comes in… Oy, it irritates me immensely.
And I have gone for a while now without paper towels. I survived, but only just! I now use a separate sponge for all counters and another one for the dishes.

Yeah, I’m definitely not giving up toilet paper!!!
I hate excessive packaging in general. We buy a lot of stuff online and most of the packaging doesn’t even fit in our garbage without a bit of forceful coercing. And though I’d love to reuse it all, it adds up so quickly!
