How to survive the holidays with style
By Meg | November 19, 2007
Recently Angie, from You Look Fab, asked if holidy knitwear like appliqué reindeer sweaters were an American tradition. I’m happy to find out that this isn’t a worldwide phenomenon, but sadly, I must say that it is a tradition here in the U.S. I’m not saying that it’s bad to get into the holiday spirit, or that you have to tell your grand kid that you can never wear that sweater she bought you, but there are other ways to celebrate and still look classy.
For goodness sakes, tone it down
If you have to wear an appliqué sweater, at least wear one that isn’t covered in snowmen, reindeer, and elves. One figure is more than enough. And the rest of the sweater should still be flattering in terms of fit and color.
Better yet, limit the holiday spirit to some fun accessories like snowflake jewelry. They’re tons more stylish, and you’ll get more use out of them.
Light up the room, just not literally
You could wear a sweater with built in flashing lights, or you could wear a stunning party dress. Either way, you’ll light up the room, but guess which one won’t leave people looking at you like a reindeer in head lights. Well, maybe they both will if you look particularly gorgeous in that party dress.
Looking for another way to sparkle? Try a sequinned clutch or metallic shoes. Or add some shimmer to your eye shadow.
Work with the weather
If you live somewhere chilly this time of year, enjoy all the wonderful accessories that will help keep you warm. Gloves, skit scarves, and warm hats are inherently of the season. There’s no need to add appliqué fuss.
