Finally found our perfect canisters, sort of
By Meg | January 15, 2008
Last Saturday I wrote about how our search for a nice set of canisters ended up with us buying $400 worth of furniture, but no canisters. Well, we’re enjoying the furniture, and we finally found the perfect canisters, sort of.
I had looked and looked online for some nice canisters so that I could store and organize our dry goods. Then I looked around town. They had to be air tight, easy to open, reasonably cheap, large enough to hold a bag of flour, and look nice enough that we could display them. I had just about given up when we decided to check a local kitchen supply store that just happened to be next to the grocery store we were headed into to find seaweed to make sushi
We had avoided going to that store because it’s small and the prices aren’t usually the cheapest. Somehow, though, their selection of quality items always manages to surprise us — especially considering how much crap we find at the big box stores. This time we were very pleasantly surprised.
There they were, shelves full of OXO Good Grips Pop containers in a variety of sizes. I was quickly sold, as was my husband. You press the button on top and to release or engage the air tight seal, just about effortlessly. They’re easy to clean, looked nice, and we didn’t have to buy three over priced sets to get the sizes we needed. Plus, they were fairly cheap. We took four 4-quart containers and four smaller containers — and plan to buy more.
After we got them home and stopped playing with the lids, we filled them up and put most of them on display on the two bookcases in the kitchen. They look surprisingly nice since they have such clean lines to them.
Then I went online to see if they were available through Amazon. Turns out, they are. I missed them before, though, because I was searching for canisters, which are generally considered to be cylindrical (hence the “sort of” in the post title). Ironically, I was actually hoping to find rectangular “canisters”. Oh well, I love the ones we have. They couldn’t be more perfect.
