Exploring color
By Meg | May 22, 2007

Last weekend I did something that I rarely do. I wore pink. In fact, I wore a whole lot of pink. Don’t get me wrong, I have nothing against pink. In fact I love pink and have been trying for the longest time to find a way of wearing pink. Unfortunately, I have very pale skin and usually the more pink I wear the more flushed I look. So, I normally gravitate towards cooler colors such as blue, gray and rich purples. However, I have been itching to wear some brighter colors this season. Maybe I’m just tired of everyone in black and white, maybe I’ve attended too many funerals this year, I don’t know.
I had just about given up on pink when I found a bright pink skirt with dark pink polka dots - and it worked. So I wore my new pink skirt with a green shirt that had a pink flower on it. I even added a pink head band and pink fingernail polish. My necklace had red beads to match my red toenails. I was nervous about all the color, but my husband said that he really liked it, so I gave it a try. I got so many compliments - even from complete strangers! And my husband, sweetheart that he is, even bought me two new necklaces and a pair of earrings to match. I felt so alive, and I really got back in touch with my flirty feminine side. Now I can’t wait to find more ways of adding pink, even though I know it takes just the right shades and combinations.
The moral of this story - don’t give up on a color that you love. Try different shades, color combinations, and amounts until you find something that works. Sometimes it means putting a color further away from your face, like on your purse, belt, shoes, or skirt. Other times it means combining it with other colors. In my case, I think the red and green helped a lot. Different shades of the same color work differently, too. I love red, but I always have better luck with cool reds than I do with the warmer shades which look more orange.
Still concerned about color? Don’t worry, I’ll be writing a lot more on the subject.
In the meantime, what colors do you love to wear? Are there any colors that you think you still can’t wear? Have you found ways to wear colors that you previously thought that you couldn’t?

Hey Meg, what a faublous sounding outfit. I must admit, I’m not a pink person in any way, shape, or form but one day I bought a dark pink t-shirt, and looked great in it. Great post. Why don’t you join us in our next Fabulous! Festival, hosted by Rebecca at http://betweenmypeers.com/.
