Don’t wear white…

By Meg | September 3, 2007

Happy Labor Day!

If you read last Thursday’s post, you know that I have no intention of packing away my white shoes after Labor day. There is one type of white clothing, though, that I hope some of you will rethink. It’s time to banish white bras. Every time I go bra shopping, I’m horrified by the vast quantity of plain, white bras. Many women buy white bras because they believe that they are the practical, sensible choice. After all, you’re supposed to wear white bras under white shirts, right? Wrong! White bras do show up under white shirts, though you may not notice when you dress in the morning if the lighting isn’t good when you check yourself in the mirror. Take a look around, though, and you’ll find that it’s pretty easy to find women wearing white bras under white shirts whether at the mall or in an office.

What are you supposed to wear under white? A bra the color of your skin! It’ll blend in with your skin under your shirt so that it’s not visible. Depending on your skin tone, the best choice is either a shade of beige or dark brown, preferably in a smooth, matte material. The color doesn’t have to be an exact match. Skin tone bras also work better than white bras under dark clothing since white bras tend to show through enough to create what looks a bit like a bra-shaped glow. In some cases, skin tone bras work as well or even better than darker bras under dark clothing, though not always (check in a mirror in a well-lit room to be sure).

There is one reason to wear a white bra - if it’s sexy. Lacy white bras can be sexy. Plain white granny bras? Not so much.
