Crazy for a cranberry cloche

By Meg | November 27, 2007

Betmar tweed cloche hat in cranberryWell, if you’ve been reading the blog lately, you know that I am absolutely crazy for hats, especially my two tweed, Betmar cloches which you can see here. I got the two tweed cloches locally, then ordered the third color, cranberry, from DelMonico Hats on Amazon.com. There it is to the left. Isn’t it a beauty?

Unfortunately, it’s still not in my grasp.

I noticed a bit after I ordered the hat that they were sold out in cranberry. I got a bad feeling when it didn’t show up as soon as I had hoped. Then there was an email from Amazon saying that my order had not been shipped. My heart sank.

Today, I got a call from DelMonico Hats. The guy on the line explained that yes, they had sold out. He apologized for the mistake, saying that it should never have happened and that since they had even sold out at Betmar, I had two choices: I could buy it in one of the two other colors, or have them cancel the order. Well, as I explained to him, I had both of the other colors (yes, I really love this hat), so he cancelled the order. Although they made a mistake, the great customer service made up for it and I will definitely not hold the mistake against them.

Of course, that didn’t fix my problem. I sooooo want that cranberry cloche!

When I got home, it suddenly hit me, “Hey, surely someone else is selling that hat!” Oh, how I love the internet! Unfortunately, I faced a few disappointments, seeing how the cranberry cloche was sold out on multiple sites. Apparently, cranberry is a popular color. And then, I found it — on Hats.com

Now, I don’t have it my hands yet, so I’m crossing my fingers. In the meantime, though, I’ve enjoyed browsing through all the wonderful hats on Hats.com.

I’ve been searching for the right cloche for 2 months now. I’ve a wide face so it’s tricky. I’m trying to remain positive though. Somewhere the cloche of my dreams is waiting, I can feel it.

I had a super hard time finding ones that looked right on me, too. Most make me look like I’m all chin and cheeks.

You should really take a serious look at the tweed ones we featured on The Bargain Queen: http://fashion.thebargainqueen.com/2007/11/tweed-cloche-hat-2750/

The green/brown tweed and the black/gray tweed are still available through our chosen seller (though you can maybe still get the cranberry elsewhere).

As you can see from the photos of me wearing them on http://www.allaboutappearances.info/its-another-say-something-hat-day/, they have a good size brim to them — almost to the point where its hard to call it a true cloche. It balances things out a lot better, though, than the more traditional, closer-fitting cloches.
