Back to the scale

By Meg | February 13, 2008

I finally went to the grocery store today, which meant that it was time to weigh myself on the scale there. I wasn’t looking forward to it since the last time I went I was at my highest weight in years. Plus, I haven’t been to the gym and I’ve eaten a lot of pizza since my husband found them on sale at the grocery store. Even worse, he adds extra pepperoni and cheese.

Somehow, I lost 5 pounds!

Yes, I know that some of that is probably water weight. I don’t care. That in itself would be exciting.

However, I do think it’s more than that, especially since I’m still rather bloated and because it’s the first time that I’ve lost that much weight in nearly a year (mostly, I’ve been gaining slowly).

So… yeah!

And I hope it keeps up.

After weighing myself, I did a good job of buying healthy things at the grocery store. Unfortunately, there’s chocolate chip muffin mix baking in the oven right now (not my doing, I swear — I’m too lazy to bake stuff). Oh well. I have no willpower when it comes to chocolate and I know it.

That’s great! It’s probably because you’ve been eating at home instead of eating out. Keep up the eating at home. :)

Thanks, Nerida!

You’re so right! I have been eating at home a lot more and that can have a huge impact. I’ve also made some changes with what I bring home from the grocery store (more on that later).

Good for you! I totally understand how hard the weight loss mission is. I’ve been trying with various degrees of effort and fluctuating results for the last year. Now I have to really get serious though - yesterday my doctor told me that I have slightly high cholesterol, and I’m only 28!! So it’s no longer just about looking better, it’s now about my health. The upside though is that I think it will be easier to stick to a diet when my health is on the line than when it’s just my vanity.

Thanks, Miss Squirrel!

The same thing happened to me a few years ago and I’m even younger than you (and almost a vegetarian)! It went down after I lost some weight, but I haven’t had my cholesterol checked super recently. That’s one reason why I want to loose the weight and eat healthier.
