An eye opening portfolio
By Meg | August 20, 2007
I just read a post about Photoshop Retouching on Fabulously Broke in the City’s blog. In the post is a link to iWanex Studio where you can view their portfolio full of before and after pictures. Now, I’ve seen sites that show before and after pictures of celebrities pointing out the difference that makeup and even cosmetic procedures can make. And this isn’t the first site I’ve seen to focus on altering photos, though it is more extensive than others I visited. But it still surprises me how much photos of stars - people who are often known for their great looks - are altered to get that ‘perfect look’. Now, I’d be a hypocrite if I didn’t admit to doing a little photoshopping (or gimping in my case, since I don’t use photoshop), but it’s usually limited to lighting or removing smudged makeup. There are still a lot of wonderful ‘imperfections’ left.
That said, I’m so glad to see that I’m not the only one with some under eye bags and wrinkles - seeing how that seems to be one of the things always, always removed from photos. Some of those celebs have them even worse than I do, or it seems. I’d hate to see what mine would look like with their schedules, though. It’s also good to know that celebs have pores, because I’ve seen a few close up shots lately that make them look plastic. I was in the mall with one of my friends looking at a makeup ad when he made a comment on the lady’s lack of pores. Yeah, like I’m going to buy makeup based on an ad that was so obviously touched up! I know that it’s done all the time, but I wish there were more companies out there that stood by there product enough to show it how it really looks. Otherwise, they should just go straight into retouching business. I can see it now, “Buy our mascara and get a free eye area photo touch up!”

I’m feeling so much love today :) Thanks for the link..
That’s what surprised me too, about Eva Longoria being touched up so much.. I thought she looked beautiful as is, and same with that one model at the end I mentioned… some of their before picture are fine, if not, better, because of the imperfections. The slight adjustments they always make to the waist and hips to make the waist seem super tiny, and everything seem to slim in comparison is making the ‘ideal body type’, almost impossible to obtain without perfect genes… (See: Jade from ANTM Cycle 6 - she had a KILLER body, that was natural)

You’re very welcome. Thank you for the great material :)
Eva Longoria surprised me a lot, too. Obviously, there is only so much they can do to her on t.v. and she looks absolutely gorgeous (of course, I’ve seen the before makeup pics and I wouldn’t have recognized her had there not been a caption). From the looks of it, absolutely no one is perfect enough. At least we’re all in it together ;)

I saw some pictures too of celebrities without make-up and I was so surprised. One had lots of freckles, one had big bags under her eyes, one had wrinkles that I never knew had wrinkles. And I’m sure they hate those pictures. I wish our culture was such that it wouldn’t be a big deal if a celeb decided not to wear make-up for a day. They’re human too. And it makes others feel better knowing that celebs aren’t perfect and they don’t have to be perfect either.

I agree totally!
And I wonder…
How many talented people are out there who would make great actors or models, but don’t pursue those careers solely because they don’t think that they are perfect enough physically?
