A style shift
By Meg | September 5, 2007
As regular readers know, I’ve undergone quite a makeover this past year; I’ve gone from baggy t-shirts and jeans to cute outfits that are figure flattering and stylish. I’ve even learned to use makeup, finally. However, makeovers are never quite over. We all need to update our styles once in a while. So, I thought I’d share a bit about where I’m headed with my own style right now.
I’ve spent the summer in day dresses and ballet flats, and worn a lot of black and white outfits. While I’m not looking to change my style completely, I’m ready for a change. I’m thinking something like a mix between Ann Taylor meets Hot Topic (minus the skulls). I guess I could describe it as ‘creative professional’ or ‘edgy, fun, but polished’.
How am I planning to get to my new look? First of all, I’d like to find more separates, like skirt and blouse combos. While I love the ease of day dresses, I’m ready for pieces that I can mix and match to go from chic casual to feminine professional. Second, I’m craving color. I’m keeping my eyes open for jewel tone blouses, especially in my favorite colors: purple, turquoise, and red. For my neutral, I’m looking for more pieces in gray and navy, which are softer looking than black or white. Gray especially looks great with my chosen colors. So far, I’ve managed to find two gray skirts, a purple jewel-tone blouse, a turquoise wrap blouse, and a navy sleeveless jacket.
In regards to accessories, I’ve got several themes in mind so that I can alter my style depending on the occasion and my mood. For starters, I’m looking for exotic or glamorous looking pieces in bright colors that really pop but dress up my outfits, like a turquoise and silver braided bracelet I bought recently and my turquoise sequinned clutch (a gift from my wonderful husband). I’m also looking for pieces that are fun and even a bit edgy to dress down things a bit, like my pair of sable ballet flats, my cobalt blue shoes with cork wedges, my purple newsboy hat, and my pink clutch. Finally, I’m looking for a few pieces in traditional patterns like herringbone, but with a twist, like my peep toe herringbone stilettos.
I’ll let you know how it all goes, but in the meantime, how are you planning to approach the fall shopping season? Are you planning a style makeover? If so, what do you envision as the result?
