A classy meme
By Meg | December 7, 2007
Valley girl from Life of a Valley Girl brought this meme to my attention in her post Getting Schooled and it was too fun not to play along.
Rules:Devise a list of 5-10 courses you would take to fix your life. It’s more fun to be in classes with friends, so include one class from the person who tagged you that you’d also like to take. Tag five.
Number one on my list would be her HOME ECON 101 class (see her post for the details). There’s a reason why I hate to be labelled a housewife — it’s because I make a rather pitiful one. Oddly enough, my husband took Home Economics in school. I took band class. Eh… it still works for us.
My classes:
HOME MONEY 101 How to make money from home. Topics would include: ideas for making money, avoiding scams, the importance of ergonomics, and converting ‘by piece’ to an hourly rate.
GET UP 101 How to put down the lap top and go do something offline. Topics would include: finding motivation, clearing a spot on the table for the laptop, what to do when your legs are asleep, and dealing with computer withdrawal.
GET OUT 101 Prerequisite: GET UP 101. How to get out of the house. Topics would include: spending time with friends and family, remember that gym membership?, local landmarks, and there are more places to go than stores.
CLOSURE 101 How to get over disappointments. Topics would include: how to look forward, dealing with misguided hope, learning when to not forgive and forget, the difference between loyal friend and doormat, and learning from one’s mistakes.
FRUGAL 202 Prerequisite: FRUGAL 101 or using generic brands, borrowing books and videos from the library, and switching to fluorescent lights. Co-requisite: HOME ECON 101. How to really start saving money and not just make token gestures of frugality. Topics would include: cancelling cable, doing it yourself, how to go a few months without buying another pair of shoes, remember that gym membership?, picking up the not-so-shiny pennies, and how to take shorter showers.
Well, that’s my list. I’m curious to see what you come up with, so if you’re reading this and have a blog, consider yourself tagged! Especially you, Icy and Fabulously Broke in the City!
Remember to link back or leave a comment with the URL so I can check out your list.

Okay, please sign me up for all!!!!!!! And can I say I love “Closure 101″? Brilliant! I tend to look to the past too much and hang on to things I shouldn’t be.

FB,
Oh, I so hope you make a list of classes! I’d love to see yours. I meant to add your name in there along with Icy’s. *Goes to do that.*
Valley Girl,
Glad you like! Yeah, this has been a tough year for me. I lost two best friends, one through no fault of her own, and the other… well, I’m trying to give up trying to figure out what’s up with him.
